Most children spend their pocket money on sweets or toys. Not so nine-year-old Ken from the Philippines.
He uses his money to secretly buy dog food to help the hungry strays in his home town.
That’s incredible enough, but he has a much bigger dream.
A discovery that melts his dad’s heart
Ken’s father has been wondering for a few weeks why the boy goes out every afternoon with a heavy rucksack.
One day he follows him and has to rub his eyes: There sits Ken in the middle of street dogs and distributes food onto several plates.
Dad is not angry, quite the opposite. He is filled with pride and moved to tears. He quickly takes a photo of the incredible scene.
Then he lets his son tell him everything: Ken noticed the strays when he was out walking his own dog. So from then on, he always bought food with his pocket money and brought it to the four-legged friends.
The dogs quickly began to trust him and were always waiting for him. Ken is overjoyed to be able to make the furry friends happy.
His father is actually not that surprised. Ken has loved animals and wanted to be close to them almost from birth. As a baby, he loved to sleep cuddled up to the family cat.
Ken says that even as a very young child he wanted to help strays. He also talks about his big dream: to open his own animal shelter where the animals are not killed.
From dream to reality
The proud dad publishes the photo he took of Ken and the street dogs on Reddit.
Underneath he writes:
„My son has been feeding stray dogs in the neighbourhood for about two weeks. Today I came along.“
It doesn’t take long for Ken to become famous around the world. Millions of hearts melt at the idea of a primary school child showing such great commitment to animals all by himself.
Many people want to support Ken in his good deed. So they start donating money to him.
He is soon able to help many more strays than would ever have been possible with his pocket money. He even receives so many donations that he is able to realise his big dream.
In fact, nine-year-old Ken opens his own animal shelter, which he calls „The Happy Animals Club“.
In addition to numerous dogs, many cats also find a home there. Ken devotedly looks after the animals, who thank him with their love and various kisses.
He also continues to hand out food for the stray furry friends outside.
Ken’s aim is to help as many animals as possible. He not only wants to look after them and offer them shelter, but also endeavours to find loving adopters for them.
