A poodle and a Bernese mountain dog are great dogs in their own right. These fluffy furry friends take every heart by storm.
How cute would it be if they had puppies together? This is exactly the ultra-cute result of hybrid breeding of these two breeds.
Although the „Bernedoodle“ is not an officially recognized dog breed, it has long since won a firm place in the hearts of dog lovers.
Appearance of the Bernedoodle
You never know exactly what a mixed breed will look like, as the characteristics of the parents can cross in very different ways.
But one thing is certain with the Bernedoodle: It is definitely fluffy and super cute!
The Bernese Mountain Dog has a thick, long coat, while the Poodle’s coat is even thicker and longer, but also curly.
Bernedoodles therefore always have a long, very dense coat, which is usually curly like a poodle. The long floppy ears often have a particularly fluffy coat.
The coat colors can, however, be very different – all the colors of the poodle or even the tricolor of the Bernese Mountain Dog are possible.
The Bernedoodle always has a muscular build, but there are big differences in size depending on which poodle the Bernese Mountain Dog is mated with.
If it is a Standard or King Poodle, the Bernedoodle measures between a stately 58 and 70 centimetres.
It is only medium-sized if it is descended from a small poodle. They then reach a shoulder height of between 45 and 55 centimetres.
It is hard to imagine that the large Bernese Mountain Dog can also produce offspring with a tiny Toy Poodle. Then the Bernedoodle will only be 30 to 43 centimetres small.
Character of the Bernedoodle
The temperament of the Bernese Mountain Dog and the Poodle has similarities and differences, which can stand out to varying degrees in the Bernedoodle.
Like its two parents, a Bernedoodle is always a very intelligent dog that is loyal to its family and enjoys long walks in the countryside.
Due to their friendly, open and playful nature, Bernedoodles also make good family dogs.
As Bernese Mountain Dogs are true „people of the mind“ who love comfort and cannot be disturbed by anything, a Bernedoodle is often more balanced and calmer than a poodle.
However, it is also possible that the Poodle’s hyper temperament is more noticeable. A Bernedoodle can also inherit the Poodle’s hunting instinct.
Good training is required here, but this is not difficult due to the docility inherited from both sides.
