It’s hard to imagine what this means for an animal. The mixed-breed dog was left alone in the cold for hours by her nefarious owner.
It all happened in Bergheim, Germany. It was only by chance that the half-frozen mixed-breed dog Nicki was found by an animal lover.
A grateful coincidence
The woman worked in a former homeless shelter. After a while, she noticed a small dog sitting outside.
The animal lover kept checking to see if the animal was still there. When no owner appeared even after a long time, she became skeptical.
In the freezing temperatures, nobody should leave their dog outside for such a long time.
She became increasingly sure that she should do something. She kept a wary eye out to see if the owner would turn up after all.
Just as the animal lover was about to take care of the frozen animal, the owner turned up abruptly.
An incredible statement
The animal lover could not have imagined what happened next in her wildest fantasies!
It’s incredibly shocking how the owner reacted. Luckily for Niki, a good person stood by her.
The owner rushed over and explained that she had brought Niki from Romania for a friend.
But the animal lover couldn’t shake off her uneasy feeling. She bravely called the public order office and the police for help.
Illegal activities are uncovered
Thanks to this courage, it turned out that the owner and Niki were in Germany illegally and were due to be deported the next day.
The police seized the little animal to prevent further danger to the dog and to pass her on to good hands.
Niki was immediately taken into the care of the animal shelter in Bergheim. All the staff there are absolutely enchanted by the little dog.
With her sweet eyes and gentle nature, she enchants everyone who even looks at her.
However, Niki will not be rehomed for the time being, as we first want to make sure that she has coped well with what she has experienced.
Only then will we be happy to look for a new, loving home for this wonderful mixed-breed dog.
