In an elementary school in Peru, a not so nice incident unfolds into an absolutely heart-warming story.
The main characters are the schoolboy Lopez, his teacher Ali Bonilla Esteban and a little dog called Pequeña.
Lopez is suddenly so different
For a few days now, Mrs. Esteban has noticed that Lopez is different than usual.
He is introverted and distracted, and an aura of sorrow and worry surrounds him.
Many a teacher would get angry and admonish the pupil for not paying attention in class.
Mrs. Esteban is different: she is worried about what might be wrong with Lopez.
Heart-warming request and heart-warming response
It is probably due to the great trust the pupils have in their friendly teacher that Lopez now dares to take the big step.
He approaches Ms. Esteban and tells her what is bothering him so much.
His dog Pequeña is all alone at home because the family’s circumstances have recently changed so that no one can stay with her. Lopez is worried about how Pequeña can cope on her own for so long.
Then he dares to ask Mrs. Esteban the crucial question: Could he please bring Pequeña to school with him?
The teacher’s reaction is certainly surprising for many. She is completely understanding and proves what a big heart she has. Without Lopez having to ask for long, she allows him to bring Pequeña to school the next day.
A new classmate
Lopez is delighted and the next morning he arrives at school with Pequeña as arranged. The little dog behaves very calmly and immediately wins everyone’s hearts.
She sits on Lopez’s lap during lessons and the boy is transformed. Suddenly he can concentrate better than ever before and is beaming with happiness.
When Mrs. Esteban offers him the chance to bring Pequeña with him whenever he wants, he is even more radiant.
And as you would expect, he now brings his beloved dog to school every day.
Now you might think that the other pupils would be distracted by the animal and no longer really participate in lessons. But the opposite is the case.
Since Pequeña has been a member of the class, everyone is much more relaxed, positive and motivated.
So this story not only proves how understanding and compassion can make a big difference, but also what a wonderful effect animals have on people.
Everyone is happy about their new classmate Pequeña and wouldn’t want to be without her.
Mrs. Esteban said:
„She has become a family member for us. We are all happy about her.“
