You can think what you like about social media – in some situations, there is hardly a better way to get help quickly from lots of people.
This is also the case with Rebecca and her dog Emmy Lou, who disappeared without a trace for two years. Only with the help of Facebook is their touching reunion possible.
Emmy’s angel
Emmy Lou, a Heeler-Collie mix, lives with her human best friend Rebecca in Louisville, Kentucky (USA).
The two are inseparable, but one day something terrible happens: Emmy Lou has disappeared without a trace after a storm.
Together with her family and friends, Rebecca searches the whole area and puts out wanted ads, but it’s no use.
However, the young woman is determined not to give up. She has the idea that many more people can help in the search if she tells Emmy’s story on social media.
So she sets up the Facebook group „Help Find Emmy Lou Harris (the dog)“.
The group soon has around 1,000 members who are keeping their eyes and ears open for Emmy and encouraging Rebecca.
A particularly dedicated core of the group searches intensively for the dog. These helpers become known as „Emmy’s Angels“.
For two years, however, the search was unsuccessful. But then, just before Christmas, Emmy’s Angels make the decisive discovery.
Heartbreaking reunion

Emmy was picked up on the street and is now in a local animal shelter.
Rebecca clearly recognizes her beloved dog from the shelter’s website and heads there immediately.

Excited, she walks down the corridor to Emmy’s kennel with a friend and a member of the shelter staff.
Will Emmy recognize her owner after all this time? Rebecca carefully holds a hand through the bars so that Emmy can sniff her.

A jolt goes through the dog, then she freaks out with joy. She recognized Rebecca immediately.

When the kennel door opens, the two of them fall into each other’s arms. Tears roll down Rebecca’s face, while Emmy licks her exuberantly.

After two years, everything is finally good again for the two best friends.
Rebecca is glad she didn’t give up and thanks Emmy’s angels profusely.

She encourages all dog owners who are missing their fur babies to get help via social media.
And she asks anyone who finds a stray dog to have it microchipped at the vet or animal shelter.
Hopefully more stories like this can end well.
