On a stormy Wednesday morning, the staff at the Forsyth County Animal Shelter had an unexpected surprise.
Two dogs were standing outside the shelter door in separate transport boxes with a handwritten note.
When the animal rescuers read the message, they didn’t hesitate for long.
An empathetic message on Facebook to find out more
„Please take good care of her. Thank you.“
was written on the note.
The note also included the dogs‘ names (Simba and Nala), their breeds, some character traits and abilities, as well as the information that Nala was only about twelve weeks old.
The staff rushed the dogs to the shelter.
There, they posted a message to the former owner on the shelter’s official Facebook page.
„To the person who dumped two dogs in front of our shelter this morning: First of all, thank you for leaving them in a place where we noticed them right away. Thank you for securing them in transport boxes and thank you for the note.“
the message said, as reported by The Dodo.
„We’re sure it must have been a difficult and heartbreaking decision to leave such sweet dogs behind, and we’re also sure you’re struggling at this moment with the decision that this was your only option.“
The post asked the owner to get in touch with the shelter for more information about Simba and Nala.
„No judgement and no criticism, we promise“,
was emphasised.
Kind comments on the post
The shelter also asked Facebook users to be kind in the comments:
„We don’t know this person’s story or what is going on in their life. We are not here to pass judgement on their difficult decision.“
Since the owner has not come forward, Simba and Nala are still considered found animals.
This means that they will not be put up for adoption for a certain period of time, or until someone comes forward.
As requested by the shelter, the comments on Facebook were overwhelmingly positive and compassionate.
„I admire the responsible people who surrendered the puppies,“
someone wrote.
„They loved them enough to do the right thing. I just want to hug them.“
