Chihuahua or beagle? Deciding between these two cute dog breeds is not easy for many people.
But you no longer have to decide, because the Cheagle is a charming hybrid of both breeds.
Although hybrid breeds are not recognised by the FCI, some breeders have dedicated themselves to breeding Cheagles for some time now.
Appearance of the Cheagle
Typically a mixed breed, a Cheagle is always a big surprise. You never know what the little puppies will look like, but they are definitely cute and pretty.
The Chihuahua is the smallest dog breed in the world, standing only 15-23 centimetres at the shoulder and weighing between 1.5 and three kilograms.
The Beagle, at 33-41 centimetres tall and weighing 9-11 kilograms, is significantly larger and heavier in comparison.
Their common offspring is larger than a Chihuahua and smaller than a Beagle. On average, a Cheagle is about 30 centimetres tall.
The average weight of a Cheagle is only around three kilograms, making it a very slim dog, although its body appears muscular.
Its long legs make the Cheagle look particularly elegant and graceful.
The Cheagle’s coat is usually short and smooth, but can also be of medium length. The coat colours, on the other hand, can vary greatly.
All colours that occur in the Beagle and Chihuahua are also possible in the Cheagle, including brown and white, orange and white, tricolour, black, sable, fawn or domino.
The Cheagle’s head often looks like a perfect blend – triangular, with large eyes and a small muzzle with a slightly larger, beagle-like nose.
Cheagles usually have floppy ears, but prick ears also occur.
Character of the Cheagle
Crossbreeds combine the character traits of both their parents, but as with their appearance, the inherited traits can also be expressed differently here.
As both parents are loyal, people-orientated dogs that are well suited as family dogs and can also cope with life in the city, this also applies to the Cheagle.
The Cheagle is also an outgoing dog that is curious and active, but also likes to cuddle up on the sofa.
However, the barking and irritability of the Chihuahua may come through. However, the Beagle’s gentle nature can have a mitigating effect here.
For its part, the Beagle has a hunting instinct and tends to be greedy. From both sides, the Cheagle also inherits a certain tendency towards stubbornness.
Nevertheless, it is considered relatively easy to train due to its affectionate, friendly nature and intelligence.
