Victoria Martinez and her partner Brian Fair have travelled to Puerto Rico for a relaxing holiday and to visit Victoria’s grandparents.
They have just spent a lovely day at the beach and are now making their way back to the house. They take this opportunity for a short hike through the countryside.
Little do they realise that this spontaneous decision will save a life and change their own.
A little fur face in the bushes
Victoria and Brian look here and there as they walk through the beautiful countryside. They are in no hurry, as they are on holiday.
Luckily, their gaze falls on a little brown something in the bushes.
On closer inspection, they realise that it is a furry little face with big eyes looking out at them.
The little face clearly belongs to a puppy hiding in the bushes. Its eyes look fearful and hopeful at the same time.
Perhaps he realises that these two people have their hearts in the right place. But he can’t be completely sure yet, so he prefers to stay in his hiding place.
Suddenly there are three of them
The couple don’t hesitate for a second. They know immediately that they have to help the poor little ball of fur.
They gently pull the puppy out of the bushes and he actually lets them take him with them, even though he is a little shy.
Victoria and Brian made up their minds right away: they didn’t just want to help the dog, they wanted to give him a home. They immediately fell in love with him.
So he comes to live with Victoria’s grandparents, where he is warmly welcomed and given the name Taíno.
Taíno is still reserved, although his joy is clear to see. He remains silent for days, but then surprises everyone at the Thanksgiving feast.
Just as the people are saying their prayers, Taíno suddenly speaks up. Nobody understands his dog language, but everyone is sure: „Hello, I’m part of the family now“.
After a short time, Taíno has taken his humans just as much to his heart as they have taken him, and when it’s time to travel back to the USA, he naturally comes along.
A beautiful, exciting life
The former street dog is now living his best life with the two people who rescued him.
He has an injured leg, but fortunately this can be healed, and otherwise he is fit and growing up healthy.
Taíno accompanies his humans everywhere, whether to work or travelling. Victoria and Brian not only frequently visit Victoria’s family in Puerto Rico, but also enjoy travelling in general.
Fortunately, Taíno is still small enough as an adult to be allowed to fly in the aircraft cabin, and he doesn’t mind flying.
But the cute four-legged friend not only travels the world, but also experiences many more exciting things with his human parents.
Victoria and Brian are getting married, and Taíno is their best man. They are expecting a baby soon after. They are really looking forward to seeing Taíno as a big brother.
Victoria says:
„It will be our first human child, but our very first child is actually Taíno.“
