It is amazing how friendly and open some dogs remain, even if they have had very few good experiences in their lives.
Many street dogs are intimidated because they have been abandoned, mistreated or scared away while begging for food.
Others, like Donny, retain their positive attitude to life and their outgoing nature.
This is Donny
Donny is a German shepherd mix who, at eight years old, is in the middle of his life.
This beautiful male dog is around 55 to 60 centimetres tall and has the typical sporty German shepherd build.
His infinitely loyal, sweet look will melt your heart immediately. And Donny lives up to the promise of his looks.
The adorable puppy enjoys being close to people, which he unfortunately gets far too little of at the shelter, and is grateful for every precious cuddle.
Donny is a friendly, people-orientated and loyal dog who also gets on very well with other dogs.
He suffers at the shelter partly because of the lack of attention, but also because he doesn’t get enough exercise and mental exercise.
As a German shepherd, Donny is a sporty, active and intelligent four-legged friend.
Donny’s history
Not much is known about Donny’s past, except that he was picked up as a street dog in Romania and brought to an animal shelter.
Whether he spent his whole life on the streets or was abandoned at some point is not known, but every day without a home is one too many.
Despite everything, Donny is physically and mentally fit, and he longs to spend the second half of his life happily.
The ideal home for Donny
As a people-orientated, loyal dog, Donny needs a lot of closeness and time together. He wants to be a fully-fledged member of the family and be included in the lives of his two-legged friends.
But he doesn’t just want to be part of his humans‘ lives, he also wants them to take time for him and his needs.
Donny needs cuddles together just as much as he needs interesting walks and activities to keep him physically and mentally occupied.
As he has spent his life on the street and in a shelter, he does not yet know the rules of being a house dog.
His humans must therefore teach him the dog ABC with positive reinforcement. Patience and empathy are just as important as consistency.
Donny is looking for a home with experienced, responsible and loving dog owners who are sensitive to his needs and know how to make him happy.
