A neglected dog found in a state of misery is desperate for love and security.
It is a vivid testimony to the power of compassion and the unwavering strength of will.
Shocking: neglected dog needs help
Giuseppe’s ordeal begins in a tiny crate, locked up and cut off from the world. His fur is so matted that his true face is no longer recognisable.
The Española Humane (EH) team takes the initiative.
The animal rights activists are confronted with a heartbreaking sight – a creature crying out to be rescued.
A new beginning through unconditional love
„It took my breath away when I saw him. The only way we could tell which end was which was because we could see his mouth,“
says Mattie Allen, EH Director of Communications.
Their efforts are focused on making him as comfortable as possible, but the dog remains completely intimidated due to his fearfulness.
„He’s absolutely panicked because he can’t see anything and every inch of his skin hurts. It’s like his whole body is screaming in agony,“
says Allen.
They take him into the operating theatre, anaesthetise him and then begin the challenging task of removing all the tangles.
Within an hour, 2.3 kilograms of matted fur are carefully removed and the dog’s eyes reflect pure relief.
„It’s as if he’s overwhelmed by sensory overload because he hasn’t seen anything for so long. He sits very still on his bed and just takes it all in“,
report his rescuers.
In addition to neglect, Giuseppe is struggling with obesity and an underactive thyroid.
But EH’s vets and carers are not giving up. Day after day, they work to win his trust and restore his health.
Every step he takes is a victory over the darkness of his past.
An example of hope and resilience
Giuseppe’s story is living proof of the strength of the will to live and the healing power of unconditional love.
In the midst of the darkness of his former life, he now experiences the warmth of human affection.
It is a reminder that love and compassion can change the world and that everyone who is loved has the power to heal and blossom.
