As dog owners, animal lovers and supporters of rescue organisations for maltreated creatures, we will probably never understand what can make an owner mistreat a puppy!
Dogs are sensitive creatures. They sense our feelings and give us comfort in our darkest hours. But they don’t just sense our needs.
As the following touching story shows, our four-legged favourites also sense the need for help from other dogs and generously pass on their sympathy!
When emergency helpers at a veterinary clinic are petrified with horror
Emergency vets are used to gruesome wounds and helping people quickly, even in almost hopeless cases.
On the day Sammie, a four-month-old puppy, was brought into a New York veterinary clinic by the animal rights activists from the organisation „Rescue Dogs Rock NYC“, the experienced medics were in shock at first and didn’t know where to start or what to do!
Sammie had been shot in the head by his owner. He was sprayed all over with blue paint and two of his legs were broken.
As if all this wasn’t enough, his former owner had also dragged him behind his vehicle.
Simon gives comfort and encouragement
While the ER staff was still puzzling over which of the numerous life-threatening injuries to tackle first, Simon snuck into the room.
Simon was also a patient in the clinic and was already on the first stages of recovery. Although – or perhaps because – he himself had been abused, he immediately gave Sammie his affection.
He put his paw close to him and sniffed him gently.
Visiting time
The older dog’s comfort was visibly good for Sammie as he tried to lift his head in his direction.
While the vets got to work, Simon didn’t leave Sammie’s side. Despite his own bandages, which he had to wear due to his injured skin, he kept trying to cheer Sammie up and maintain his zest for life.
After Sammie had been cared for, Simon kept visiting him at his sickbed. He kept watch, sniffed for any infections and kept the staff on their toes to make sure Sammie had everything he needed.
A bright new future
In the meantime, Simon has recovered and was allowed to move to a loving family.
Sammie’s recovery, however, will still take some time. His injuries are more serious than those of Simon. But with the gentle comfort, encouragement and love that Simon has shown Sammie in the most difficult hours, the little puppy is fighting for his future.
We are convinced that once his healing is complete, Sammie will also be able to look forward to a bright future. Simon has given him the confidence to look forward to better days!
