Who just throws puppies in the bin? Nobody, you would think. But apparently there are people who are capable of doing this.
Nikolaus, his nine siblings and his mum were all found in a rubbish container. It was a stroke of luck that they were discovered, but that doesn’t make the crime any less inhumane.
Some time has passed and Nikolaus still hasn’t found a home, even though he is such a wonderful dog.
This is Nikolaus
Nikolaus is now about one and a half to two years old. So he is already an adult and has reached his final height of 55 centimetres at the shoulder and a weight of 25 kilograms.
But he still plays and romps around like a puppy. This adorable puppy likes to be active, running, walking and using his leg muscles as well as his head when playing.
He is very open, both towards people and other dogs, and is curious about his surroundings.
Nikolaus is also a very social dog who gets on well with other dogs and loves the company of people.
He loves attention, affection and cuddles as well as exercise.
Despite his difficult past, he has retained his positive, cheerful and affectionate nature.
He has already learnt a little in his foster home, for example how to walk on a lead. But he still wants to practise more.
As with so many dogs from Romania, he may have a certain amount of herding or guard dog genes.
Nikolaus‘ life so far
A student just wanted to quickly take out the rubbish, but when she opened the lid of the container, she couldn’t believe her eyes.
Inside lay a whole family of dogs, a mum with ten puppies, looking at her in despair.
The student acted immediately. She took the whole family out of the container and brought them to her grandmother, where they were fed and cared for.
Unfortunately, the rescue came too late for two puppies, who died as a result of the cruel act.
The mum and the remaining eight puppies were taken to the shelter. Nikolaus had to spend his entire childhood there, while most of his siblings found a home.
He has been living in a foster home in Bavaria for some time now, but he is still hoping to find a real forever family.
The ideal home for Nikolaus
Nikolaus is looking for loving, sensitive people who will give him lots of affection and take time for him to cuddle and do fun activities together.
His family should therefore be fit and active. He would also like a rural home and a house with a garden where there is room to run around and play.
He is hoping for patience and understanding when it comes to familiarisation and training, as well as an exclusively positively reinforcing training style.
His people should be familiar with the characteristics and needs of herding dogs or guard dogs.
He would be particularly happy to have a confident, friendly first dog at his side.
