Unfortunately, it is not an isolated case that puppies are simply carelessly „disposed of“. In fact, this happens hundreds of thousands of times around the world.
Everyone should consider in advance whether they can fulfil their responsibility for an animal.
Fortunately, there are animal welfare organisations that give severely neglected and abandoned dogs a second chance.
One heartbreaking example is the case of Liam, who was abandoned in a crate outside the Kentucky Humane Society.
Although the crate had air holes, Liam’s condition was – to put it mildly – pathetic.
Liam – emaciated, sick and barely able to survive
Employees of the animal welfare organisation found the crate labelled „Found, help me“ on 17 September.
But when people opened the box, they could hardly believe their eyes. The scene was one of horror.
The puppy Liam (whose name was later chosen on social media) was emaciated, literally skin and bones. In addition, most of the fur was barely there. Apart from that, the skin was swollen, partly inflamed and covered in infections.
The fact that the cute little puppy wasn’t even able to stand on its own two legs was really bad, the animal was so weak.
The staff immediately set about saving Liam and alleviating his considerable pain.
Animals have emotions and feel pain too!
The long road to recovery and lots of support
To make matters worse, the initial medical report was dramatic. The untreated infections had stunted his physical growth. Although Liam was supposed to weigh 25 pounds, his weight was only 15 pounds.
However, many followers of the animal welfare organisation donated money for the puppy and the staff gradually nursed the animal back to health.
Unfortunately, more and more complications developed. It was discovered that Liam had contracted parvovirus (a serious dog disease).
Despite progress in his recovery, the team is not sure whether Liam will fully recover from his illness. The stresses and strains of his young life have been too great.
We are keeping our fingers crossed and hope for the best for Liam
A similar case occurred just six months before Liam. Here too, the same staff found an orphaned puppy in a similarly poor condition.
This puppy, named Ethan, survived. Perhaps a miracle will also happen with Liam.
The animal welfare organisation is doing everything it can and many people are keeping Liam in their prayers. Liam, you can do it!
