The staff at the RSPCA Radcliffe Animal Centre have certainly seen a lot, but what they see that day leaves them stunned.
A cardboard box is dropped off at the animal centre – and inside is clearly someone who is terrified.
Disposed of like rubbish
The box looks like a normal parcel you’d get if you ordered something from a mail order company.
It’s a fairly small box and someone has gone to a lot of trouble to tape it shut.
Local residents found the parcel by a bin and heard desperate crying from inside.
They came to the only possible, cruel conclusion: there must be an animal trapped in the box. So they take the parcel to the animal centre.
The staff are horrified when they receive the box. These terrible cries for help keep coming out.
Big, sad eyes
Tense and worried, the staff open the parcel. They don’t know what to expect and have to be very careful not to hurt the animal in the box.
Now one side of the parcel is open – and three pairs of big, sad eyes are peering out.
Inside the box are three tiny little kittens.
They are completely terrified, but also relieved that they can now get out of their cramped, stuffy prison.
They wouldn’t have survived in there for long. If they hadn’t suffocated, they would have fatally overheated.
A better future
Thankfully, the kittens are physically healthy, but they will need a long time and a lot of loving patience to forget their horrific experience.
The animal centre explains:
„They need lots of positive experiences to gain confidence and safe places to hide when they don’t feel ready to say hello and play.“
Whoever left the parcel with the kittens where they were found clearly intended for the babies to die and be disposed of with the rubbish.
The kittens were extremely lucky that attentive people heard their cries for help from the box.
They are now being raised with lots of love at the animal shelter and can enjoy a carefree childhood.
As soon as they have fully recovered from their emotional wounds, the shelter will be looking for loving families for them.
We wish the kittens, who had such a cruel start in life, that they will always have a good time from now on.
