Shelter dog Tam is blind and suffers from Ehlers-Danlos syndrome, which makes his skin very weak and fragile and his joints prone to arthritis.
But the cats at the shelter don’t care about any of that.
Velvet paw Elodie and her cat troop seem to know that Tam needs an extra dose of attention and give him their very special house cat massage.
Combined cat power
Life at the „Sunshine Animal Refuge Agadir“ (SARA) in Morocco is turbulent. The animal shelter is one of three centres in the SARA network, which actually looks after ageing and sick dogs.
However, more and more homeless cats are also finding their way there, meaning that around 200 small tigers currently inhabit the premises.
„To be honest, it’s difficult to find a place here on the farm without immediately being surrounded by cats,“
smiles Hazel Skeet, a long-term volunteer at the animal sanctuary.
But there is clearly a star among the animals, and that is blind Tam.
Tam, the unsolicited star
„Tam regularly shares his bed with at least two cats,“
skeet continues.
„All the cats love him, cuddle him or give him massages.“
It is simply the sweetest sight that the care staff capture at SARA.
Tam sits on the floor like a rock in the surf, while one of the cats gently buries her paws in his fur and seems to slowly massage Tam’s shoulders.
You can literally hear her comforting purr!
Tam has been at SARA for almost nine years. He was born here together with his siblings.
Beautiful dog life
Tam’s sister Daccia, who suffers from the same incurable genetic disease as her brother, also lives at the shelter.
Next to the cats, Daccia is Tam’s favourite companion. When he’s not playing with his sister, Tam loves to let the sun shine on his fur and soak up the sounds and smells of the shelter.
„Sometimes a little puppy comes by to say ‚hello‘ to him, which he tolerates, but his favourite thing to do is cuddle up with a cat friend,“
describes Skeet Tam’s everyday life.
What could be better than being surrounded by loved ones who give him love and even regular massages day after day?
