Somewhere in Pierce County, Washington, in the USA, a pretty white dog runs across the road. A car speeds up and there is a serious collision.
The dog is not dead, but injured and disorientated. She seeks refuge in a large concrete tube protruding horizontally from the embankment a few metres away.
Pulled out on a blanket
Perhaps the poor furry friend would have succumbed to her injuries there, but fortunately a police officer was watching the whole scene.
He wastes no more time and crawls into the pipe to get the dog out.
As she can’t walk very well, the policeman puts her on a blanket and pulls her out of the pipe. It’s a mission he can be proud of.
Threatened with euthanasia
But what should happen now? The dog is not chipped and no owner can be found. Nevertheless, she needs urgent medical treatment.
Who should bear the costs? It’s brutal, but for most strays, a serious injury is not followed by medical treatment, but euthanasia.
Animal welfare organisation steps in
Fortunately, the nameless white dog can escape this cruel fate.
The animal welfare organisation People for Animal Care and Kindness stepped in to pay for the necessary operation.
The dog was immediately taken to Sumner Veterinary Hospital and operated on there.
„I was so sad when this beautiful dog came to us,“
nichol Phillips from the veterinary clinic later recalled. His special thanks go to the police officer who discovered and rescued the dog.
Piper with foster parents
After her treatment at the veterinary clinic, the stray found loving foster parents. She is no longer nameless.
She is now called Piper and can fully develop her friendly personality. Piper is very sociable and likes to socialise with people and other dogs.
Her relationship with cars has not deteriorated as a result of the accident. She loves to ride in the car.
You can watch the officer pull Piper out of the concrete pipe on the Pierce County Sheriff’s Department Facebook channel.
