The deer has heard a noise
The deer heard something. What could it be? There, the noise is coming from the terrace of the big human house. Curious, the forest dweller runs into the garden.
The deer doesn’t dare get very close to the terrace. It stops at a distance, listens and looks. What is going on here?
The call of small children
There is probably something like a cross-species knowledge of what sound a child makes.
As humans, we can recognise very young dogs, cats and even wild animals by their voices.
A fawn sounds different from a roe deer and a young boar sounds different from a wild boar. Why shouldn’t it be the same the other way round?
Because what the deer hears is nothing other than a human baby crying on the terrace.
