Jax had been sitting in the shelter for many years, waiting for people to give him a home.
However, his friends at theRegina Humane Societydid not give up and did everything they could to fulfil his heart’s desire.
A long road
Jax was surrendered by a person who didn’t give much information about his history, but it was obvious that he hadn’t been loved for a long time.
When he arrived at the shelter, he was emaciated and hungry.
Jax was thoroughly examined by a vet, who then put him up for adoption.
However, shortly afterwards Jax fell ill with pneumonia and so he lost his adoption licence just a few days later.
Jax’s fight for a home
This was followed by several weeks of treatment, during which he made a full recovery. This allowed them to start looking for a family for him again.
But despite several adverts and social media campaigns, no interested parties were found for him.
Jax’s loud and deep barking seemed to put off many visitors, even though he was a friendly dog.
„It wasn’t anything aggressive. He was really suffering from something called barrier frustration. He’s a super-nice dog, but there was a barrier in his kennel and he couldn’t get to people to be with them. He just wanted to be petted, but that could often be off-putting for people.“
bill Thorn, director of the Regina Humane Society, told The Dodo.
Jax’s moving farewell to the shelter
The shelter staff didn’t give up, however, and brought Jax into the reception area to give him a chance to be on his best behaviour.
„During that time, he became a staff favourite because we all knew what a nice dog he was, but we just had to put him in a place where he could show that,“
reported Thorn.
Finally, on 3 March 2023, a dream came true: Jax was adopted by a man who immediately fell in love with him.
On his last day at the shelter, Jax wanted to say goodbye to his friends in a special way.
He therefore stopped off at every single member of staff and gave them all a touching kiss goodbye.
It was a moving scene that touched the staff deeply and showed how much Jax’s personality and warmth had won them over during his time at the shelter.
