For a year, Major the dog waited every day for someone to notice him.
The furry friend, who lived at the Naperville Area Humane Society, couldn’t understand why no one wanted him.
It was a similar story for the Humane Society staff. No one could understand why no one wanted to give the cute four-legged friend a new home.
No one wants Major
„None of us could understand why he wasn’t adopted. He’s a really great dog.
We suspect that dogs that are in shelters too long are ignored because people think there’s something wrong with them,“
kristen Funk, executive director of the Humane Society, told The Dodo.
Major has everything he needs – just no family
Major always had a blast going for walks with his fosters and playing with the other dogs at the shelter.
But something was missing – a real family.
His carers were heartbroken to see day after day go by without Major finding his humans.
„It was a really hard time for all his fans here. Everyone had taken him to their hearts. Every day that no one showed any interest in him was really hard to live through.“

Major finally gets lucky
But one day, everything was about to change for Major. The Humane Society received a call from Jose, a truck driver who had just lost his own dog.
He wanted a new companion to accompany him on his truck trips. Kristen immediately knew who would be a perfect match for Jose.
„We knew we had just the right dog for Jose,“
is how Kristen further explained The Dodo.
Off to new and exciting adventures
It wasn’t long before Major left the shelter with his new dad. The two of them climbed into the lorry together.
Major was so happy to have finally found his human that he couldn’t stop beaming.
His carers are also overjoyed that Major has now found his family:

Major now travels all over the country with his dad and loves nothing more than discovering new things with him and cuddling with him at night.
