For dogs, friendship with their own kind is unique and irreplaceable. This was also the case with Lucy and Sully.
The loyal four-legged friends met at the animal shelter and became best friends. They went through thick and thin together.
But the day came when one of them had to move out.
One heart and one soul
After Lucy and Sully got to know and love each other at the animal shelter, they even went into foster care together.
Not much is known about their lives before that. While red-furred Lucy was already a few years old when she came to the shelter, little Sully was still a puppy.
Lucy loved Sully as if he were her own son.
The two dogs must have thought they would stay together forever. But it was clear that the day could come when one of them would have to move out.
A woman wanted to adopt Lucy
And so it happened.
A woman named Alaina Brinton had to say goodbye to her older dog after seven years. Now she was ready to open her heart to a new furry friend.
Or two furry friends?
Luckily, she was ready to adopt Lucy and Sully together.
„When I saw Lucy in a photo at the local humanitarian organisation, I just had to meet her,“
alaina told The Dodo.
„I was told over the phone that Lucy had a best friend and I agreed to look at both dogs,“
she added.
She realised immediately that the two could not be separated
Even though Alaina had no intention of taking in two dogs, she decided to do so. She knew that the two would be devastated if they were suddenly separated.
During their first time in their new home, the pair of dogs were still very nervous and anxious.
But it was so precious that they had each other.
„One calmed the other down,“
alaina told The Dodo.
So it didn’t take long for them to settle in and find their routine.
Seven years later, their friendship is unbroken
In their new home in Kentucky, the two still do everything together: playing, lounging, snoozing and exploring.
„They are friends for life, Lucy often licks Sully’s forehead and he looks so happy every time she does,“
alaina tells The Dodo.
Even at the dog park, they are never separated for long and one seeks the other’s company again.
