In the car park of a McDonald’s branch in North Whitehall, Pennsylvania, there is a large, long cardboard box.

It is sealed with a lot of tape and cannot be assigned to a person. This seems strange to some passers-by.

They inform the fast food restaurant staff, who are in for a big surprise.

Who is squealing so loudly?

When the employees come to the car park to investigate the box, they hear a loud squeaking noise coming from inside.

There’s someone inside! The people quickly open the box and find two pot-bellied pigs. They are very young piglets.

On the way to Logan’s Heroes

After the McDonald’s employees have freed the two little pigs, they immediately inform the animal rescuers from Lehigh Valley CART.

The organisation itself cannot offer the piglets a place to stay, but the animal rescuers know a good address: Logan’s Heroes Animal Rescue.

Not only dogs, cats and small animals are taken in there, but also pigs. Logan’s Heroes also has a good network of foster homes.

Unwanted pets?

„These two piglets are lucky they didn’t freeze to death overnight,“

writes Logan’s Heroes on Facebook, as it is the middle of winter when the piglets are rescued.

No one can say why someone left the little pot-bellied pigs in a locked cardboard box in a car park.

But it is probably the familiar story. Pot-bellied pigs are mainly kept as pets in the USA.

Presumably someone bought or was given the two babies, then changed their mind and left them without a second thought.

Recovering as indoor pigs

Normally, pot-bellied pigs at Logan’s Heroes live in a spacious barn during the cold season.

However, the two new arrivals are too small for this and far too frightened after their bad experience.

So they are first placed in a foster home for a month, where they can recover as indoor pigs and process their trauma.

After that, the search will begin for pig-friendly people who want to fulfil the little grunts‘ dream of a forever home.

At least they already have names. They are two little pig girls and their names are Lena and Linda.
