A roe deer gives birth to a very special fawn: only the fawn’s back, ears and the back of its head are brown and covered with the white spots typical of deer.
The rest of the fawn is completely white, except for its bright blue eyes and the pink tip of its nose.
But for his mum, her child’s peculiarity was more of a thorn in her side and so she disowned her offspring. What was to become of this special creature?
The baby deer called Dragon
The incredibly adorable baby deer called Dragon was just one and a half weeks old and has already won over many hearts.
Dragon was born at the Deer Tracks Junction animal farm in Cedar Springs, Michigan, as Fox 17 reported.
His human surrogate mother, Hilary Powell, owner of the farm, explained that the fawn was probably rejected by its mother because it was born with a white-faced coat.
This characteristic would have made it more difficult for it to survive in the wild.
A miracle of nature: the rarest fawn in the world
In the wild, fawns like Dragon are extremely rare. Only around 1% of roe deer are born with a white pied face and a white belly.
The fawn’s mother, a white-tailed deer named Bunny, gave birth to such an extraordinary creature.
Dragon was born with bright blue eyes and a pink nose, which clearly set him apart from the other fawns.
His unusual nose colour can be a disadvantage in the wild, as without protection it is exposed to the sun and could get sunburnt.
A loving home on the animal farm
However, Dragon is now being lovingly cared for at the animal farm.
Hilary Powell and her family look after the fawn and give him the food he needs by bottle.
Soon the little fellow will be ready to welcome visitors to the farm.
