Halloween is just around the corner. It’s a time for ghosts, witches, bats, creatures of the underworld and all sorts of other creatures.
But what Eric Lind, a resident of a neighbourhood in Illinois, sees passing by in the autumn sky is truly spooky at first glance.
Because what is rising into the air bears a dangerous resemblance to the outline of a witch on the familiar broom..
What’s that perched in the pine tree?
Lind’s video has been shared over 101,000 times on Facebook and viewed over five million times.
The sight that Lind shares with the world in this way couldn’t be more appropriate for this time of year.
The pictures show… ehm, a witch on her broom? Or, wait… On closer inspection, you discover that the witch is actually an owl and the broom is a hobbyhorse!
„My mother got a call from the neighbourhood asking her to take a look outside at one of our pine trees in the backyard. At first they saw an owl flying into the tree, but couldn’t make out what it had in its talons.“

The family now want to know for sure and have come to the conclusion that the owl has probably found a new fluffy playmate!

Some people speculate that the night bird may have mistaken the hobbyhorse for a fluffy prey animal.
Well, whether for reasons of friendship or hunting, the video is making the internet smile.
Lind also comments on his post with a funny remark:
„Current situation at my parents house… The young owl from the neighbourhood has stolen this hobby horse and is flying around the neighbourhood with it. Hilldale/ Forest Park/ Ridge Lane neighbours… If your child is missing their hobby horse, contact the owl.“
Countless amused comments follow, but there are also questions about the animal’s welfare.
Lind gently dismisses these, however. There was no reason to assume that the owl had injured itself or become entangled in the toy.
He and his family are happy about the many funny comments. Lind’s plan to bring a little joy into people’s everyday lives by sharing the video has paid off.
