The golden retriever Bella and the blind Chihuahua mix Snowball are best friends and have grown up together.
But one day they come to the animal shelter for a sad reason and are repeatedly overlooked.
For them, this not only means a tiresome existence in the kennels, it also threatens their lives.
Bad chances
But the clock is ticking, because they are in a shelter where unadopted animals have to be euthanised.
Bella and Snowball have been animal best friends for many years. The white Chihuahua mix and the much larger golden retriever are growing up together.
But Snowball is going blind in old age. Whether it was due to the rising costs of the two dogs‘ health or something else: Her family surrenders the animals to an animal shelter.
There, the chances of the two friends being adopted are very slim. Let alone finding a new home together.
Not only is Snowball blind, the two animals are old and therefore need a lot of care and attention. Which can also lead to increased costs.
It’s a matter of life and death
But for the old dog ladies, it wasn’t just about finding a new home. It’s actually about their lives!
Bella and Snowball were handed in to an animal shelter where unadopted animals are euthanised.
Ever since she was brought in, it has been clear that Snowball has given up hope. But her surrogate mum Bella won’t leave her fosterling alone.
The carers at the animal shelter were able to observe how Bella kept trying to cheer Snowball up in the shared kennel.
A glimmer of hope
But the days go by and the old bitches are overlooked again and again. Bella also starts to hang her head.
Unlike their conspecifics, they don’t jump around barking as soon as visitors arrive. On the contrary: they lie quietly and withdrawn in their kennel.
But one day a miracle happens! A couple visit the animal shelter and notice Bella and Snowball.
They ask about the pair’s history, after which they realise that they are going to give the dogs a wonderful retirement.
