Toby is a special cat. You can see that at first glance. He suffers from a rare disease that makes his face look sunken.
Out of sheer fear, Toby always hides behind his best friend at the animal shelter. Despite his six years, he looks like a grandad.
Does a tiger like this have a chance of finding a loving home?
Love at first sight
The disease that Toby is suffering from is called cutaneous asthenia. It causes the cat’s skin to be very sensitive on the one hand and very loose on the other.
As a result, Toby’s face sags.
„His body doesn’t produce collagen properly. He doesn’t heal as well as he should and scars form very easily“,
adds Georgina, now Toby’s owner.
Despite, or perhaps even because of, his unusual appearance, Georgina and her fiancé Christopher immediately fall in love with this cat when they first see him at the animal shelter.
It’s the famous love at first sight.
The best friend has to come along
At first, Toby is anything but trusting.
When they first meet, he hides behind his best friend Quinton, trembling all over.
„I didn’t even touch him, he was so scared“,
georgina describes the first encounter. She immediately realises that Quinton the cat plays a special role for Toby.
As he is also waiting to be adopted, they both now live with Georgina and Christopher.
A difficult start in their new home
At first, Toby and Quinton are difficult to deal with. The cats are so shy that they have to be fed under the bed.
However, Georgina and Christopher are firmly convinced that the two friends simply need more time and their trust will grow. And that’s exactly what happens.
The path to a cuddly cat
Quinton is the first to overcome his shyness. Toby, who always takes his cue from Quinton, follows his example.
He soon comes out of hiding and explores his new surroundings.
It doesn’t take long before Toby allows himself to be stroked and eventually even actively asks for attention.
Over time, he becomes a real cuddly cat who likes nothing better than to have his tummy cuddled.
