They have already experienced a lot, but nothing like this has ever happened to them before.
In addition to monetary donations, animal lovers can also support the shelters with in-kind donations.
The Humane Society of West Michigan also has a large, white container in which visitors can drop pet supplies.
But what a donor once discovered in the donation box shocked him and the staff at the Humane Society.
Every donation is important
The staff at the shelter are very grateful when people with a heart for animals donate various supplies for pets.
However, it should be clear that the donation boxes set up for this purpose are only intended for items ..
Strange sounds came from the donation bin
Recently, an animal lover was on his way to drop off a donation at the shelter when he heard something strange.
There was a meowing sound in the donation bin.
He couldn’t believe his ears, surely nobody would throw an animal into the bin.
Fortunately, the donor did the right thing and alerted the staff immediately. They quickly rushed over and also heard the pitiful cries.
What they found in the bin shocked everyone: it was a black and white cat and its basket.
„I was absolutely shocked, nothing like this has ever happened here before,“
julie Townsend, a member of staff at the animal shelter, told The Dodo.
The owner must have acted in distress
The kitten was immediately taken to the shelter’s intake and vet departments.
Naturally, they were concerned about the distress the owner must have acted in.
The black and white kitten was so cute and charming, she was well fed and had a soft, well-groomed coat.
Neglect or even mistreatment could therefore be ruled out. On the contrary, the kitten was very much loved.
They did not judge the owner
Of course, putting your pet in the animal welfare organisation’s donation bin is the wrong way to go about it. Nevertheless, the staff reached out empathetically to the person concerned via Facebook:
„We are so sorry that you had to leave your beloved pet behind today“ ..
Brianna Shahly, marketing and communications coordinator for the Humane Society of West Michigan, explained the background:
„It’s important for us to show pet owners that shelters are not judging them,“
shahly told The Dodo.
The kitten became the shelter’s favourite
The staff named the foundling Bayonetta. She quickly became the shelter’s favourite.
„She’s so friendly and sweet,“
shahly told The Dodo.
Now Bayonetta is looking for a new, loving family to give her a forever home.
