Oscar is only two years old. However, his sad look suggests that the American Bulldog mix has been through a lot.
He has had to wait almost his entire life for a loving home.
Oscar’s story
He was handed in to Miami-Dade Animal Services (MDAS ) when he was just one year old.
The staff did everything they could to improve his health and nurse him back to health.
He had infected wounds on his neck that needed urgent attention and his body was covered in dirt.
After medical treatment, he was placed on the list of adoptable dogs.
The volunteers at the shelter did everything they could to place Oscar. Unfortunately, even after many months, no one wanted to adopt him.
Oscar became sadder day by day.
„Nobody responded to the adverts,“
rosa Fond, the founder and chairwoman of Humans and Animals United, told The Dodo.
„Eventually he will be completely forgotten.“
The shelter ran out of resources
After a year, the shelter was running out of space, so Oscar’s carers had to think of something quickly.
„We had to come up with a plan straight away and find foster carers,“
fond told The Dodo.
One day, they finally found a foster home for Oscar and he was able to leave the shelter.
Fond was happy that Oscar had found a new home for the time being.
„He is so happy,“
said Fond.
Unfortunately, the dog still had a long way to go. His teeth were in terrible condition and Oscar was in pain.
„We are doing everything we can to make him feel better soon,“
says Fond.
His condition improved in a short space of time
Thanks to daily treatments at the vet, he quickly got better. He gradually blossomed and became a happy dog.
„He was suddenly so hyper,“
said Fond.
„But that’s also because he’s still so young, he’s so sweet.“
Unfortunately, there is no family who wants to adopt Oscar yet, but Fond is confident.
„He deserves a good home,“
says Fond.
„Someone who will give him lots of love and help him overcome his trauma.“
The staff at Humans and Animals United hope that Oscar will soon find a suitable home.
