If a dog’s tongue looks strange, this can indicate serious health problems. However, we don’t want to withhold from you why the owner in our story had a fit of laughter when she saw her four-legged friend’s tongue!
Rhonda and her Golden Retriever dog Lily have a particularly close relationship. That’s why Lily thinks they should share everything…
The quick purchase
Rhonda and Lily were travelling in the car when Rhonda remembered that she had to make a quick run to the shop.
She parked her car in front of the shop and turned the air conditioning to the highest setting so that Lily could keep cool in the car for a few minutes.
The innocence of the countryside
As it was a hot day in the USA, Rhonda had treated herself to a slush on the way home. This is an ice-cold drink with flavourings and colouring. She put it in the cup holder in her car before running to the shop.
Back from a quick shop, Rhonda spotted Lily in the passenger seat. Lily was looking out of the opposite window.
She ignored Rhonda, who thought it would have been okay to leave the car with the air conditioning on for a few minutes.
Rhonda found her dog’s behaviour a little strange, as she looked out of the window as if she couldn’t drink a drop of water.
The blue tongue
Suddenly Lily stuck out her tongue and licked her muzzle. And her tongue was completely blue! Rhonda burst out laughing.
She explains: „Lily loves ice cream, in any form. If anyone in the family goes to the fridge or freezer, especially in summer, Lily follows in their footsteps.
Clearly, Rhonda’s icy drink in the car cup holder was an invitation to Lily to have something cold.
As it was a blue slush, Lily’s tongue turned blue immediately.
Watch out for sugar
As ice cream is usually made with a lot of sugar, Lily understandably gets very little of it.
So when Rhonda left the car, she took her chance to savour not only the cool liquid but also the sweetness.
How fortunate that the blue tongue was not a cause for concern in this case!
