Some of the herding dogs that are so popular today were also bred to take on a wolf if necessary. After all, the protector of sheep, goats or other livestock cannot turn tail at the sight of a predator or poacher!

3. Anatolian Shepherd
This Turkish giant is closely related to the Kangal. As an independent guardian, he is used to large open spaces , which he can survey from the top of a small hill.
Due to his self-determined nature, he should only be adopted by experienced owners who can meet his needs and show him clear rules and boundaries. He is only peaceful as long as nothing unusual attracts his attention!
4. Maremma
He is a real creature of habit. If he knows his tasks, he no longer needs instructions and does his work very independently.

5. Irish Wolfhound
The Irishman among the large and impressive herding dogs always looks a little disheveled and unkempt, with his short wire-haired coat over powerful muscles.
He is friendly, playful and cuddly around his family. He never loses his alertness and can react quickly. He likes to defend himself in front of his family if he does not know the other person.
Today, he hardly ever takes on protective tasks. As a family dog, however, they can be seen more and more often, and not just in their home country.
