Galagos, also known as bush babies, are truly tiny primates. They weigh just a few hundred grams and can comfortably fit in a human hand.
At the other end of the spectrum are the gorillas, the largest and heaviest primates.
At the Mefou Primate Conservation Center in Cameroon, these very different contemporaries meet.
The outcome of this encounter is simply magical.
The boss with a tender heart
Bobo is the undisputed boss of the western lowland gorillas at the Mefou Primate Conservation Center.
Weighing a good 180 kg, he is a very impressive sight. At the same time, the staff at the center describe him as a gentle and friendly giant.
Bobo shows what a tender heart actually beats in his mighty chest when he receives a visit from a tiny bush baby one day.
The curious dwarf
The fact that a bush baby can be seen in daylight at all is a small miracle.
Normally, these dwarf primates are nocturnal and sleep through the hours of the day.
Even more unusual, however, is the attempt to make friends with a gorilla like Bobo, who is hundreds of times the size and weight of a bush baby.
Perhaps the little one intuitively sensed that he was dealing with a huge but friendly fellow.
In any case, he decides to get to know Bobo better and is rewarded for this decision with a great experience.
The contact
Bobo is completely smitten with the fearless little fellow right from the start. He takes it in his huge hands so that the bush baby can make itself comfortable.
It is about the size of one of Bobo’s fingers. When other gorillas want to know what’s going on, Bobo won’t let them get close to his new friend.
He wants to have him all to himself and the bush baby seems to like this very much.
Sometimes it hops away to curiously explore the grass nearby, but it always comes back to its big buddy.
The two spend two hours together like this. Then Bobo takes the bush baby back to the trees where the little one has its home.
