We often find ourselves irresistibly drawn to newborn puppies, finding it tough to resist their allure. Yet, there are even more pressing matters that require our attention.
The mother, who has labored to introduce these pups to the world, certainly merits our utmost observation and affection.
Sadly, not this mother dog had such fortune.
Allow us to share the tale of Dory, a forsaken canine mother who remained steadfast and courageous to ensure the survival of her little ones.
An Abandoned Family Awaits Help
Dory, a Boxer aged five, handed joy to the world with the birth of nine adorable pups. But far from being celebrated, she found herself utterly deserted.
The abandoned family was spotted in Abilene, Texas church’s parking zone by a passerby, who swiftly shared their plight on social media anticipating someone capable to lend a hand.
In little time, Paw Angel Animal Rescue (PAAR) came upon their shared photo online and was all prepared to provide assistance.
Upon seeing the picture, my heart shattered into pieces. I instantly rang Angel and we rushed to rescue the dogs, voiced Misty Boerger.
She, along with her fellow dog enthusiast, Angel Urban, set off in a vehicle to track them down.
When they finally succeeded in finding them, they discovered a frightened Dory snuggled with her brood of nine. The pups barely two weeks old, while the mother dog was fighting to keep them safe, evidently needed a helping hand.
The puppies were in stable condition, but there were visible signs of distress on Dory.
We discovered numerous open and draining wounds on her, revealed Urban.
The Path Back to Health
They gently placed them in the car’s rear and transported them to the vet for medical attention and evaluation.
All Dory’s injuries were manageable, but regrettably, the vet identified a more serious problem with one of the puppies.
This pup, christened Peach, was found to have a tumor lodged in her throat. The tumor interfered with her nursing capabilities, posing difficulties in swallowing. As she continued to grow, so did the tumor, and surgery was not an option due to her size.
Peach tragically had to be put down.
Her absence weighs heavily, yet inspires hope and determination in her mother and her eight siblings.

This loss indeed jolted this fur-covered family. Thankfully, the rescue’s support and affection enabled them to recover physically and emotionally in a short span.
Beginning Anew
Expressing gratitude for the aid and charitable contributions, PAAR shared an update about the family’s well-being and the significant growth of the puppies.
Permanent, love-filled homes have already been found for three of the puppies.
As of the moment this piece was penned, Dory along with the others continued to reside with their foster mother, Boerger. They are relishing every day, abundant with playdates and snuggles.

If circumstances arise in which you can’t meet your dog’s needs after birth, please don’t hastily abandon her.
Local rescue centers are willing to accept them, nurture them, and find a loving and caring new home for them. They are deserving of that!
