It is the life story of the chain dog Miss Willie from North Carolina in the USA, which is to be told here.
Passionate sponsors in constant action
The first encounter with Miss Willie was over ten years ago. Back then, dedicated employees of PETA (People for Ethical Treatment of Animals) saw a dog chained to a tree.
Despite their efforts, the owner refused to release the animal. Nevertheless, he allowed the PETA employees to visit the poor four-legged friend regularly.
The dog Miss Willie not only received food and toys, but also a lot of warmth and love, which may have made her life on the chain a little more bearable.
Rescue shortly before death
In the meantime, Miss Willie had been chained to the tree for twelve years. When PETA employee Jes went to the dog this time, he found her in a pitiful state.
The dog was coughing and barely able to stand. Fortunately, Jes managed to convince Miss Willie’s owner. Jes was allowed to take the sick dog to a vet.
To everyone’s horror, however, the vet could only conclude that Miss Willie would die in the next few days. Faced with this terrible situation, Jes made a decision.
Dignified days of love
Jes would not bring Miss Willie back. He would make her last days the best days of her life!
He made sure that Miss Willie could celebrate her birthday properly. Jes organised cakes and balloons and yes, he even sang a birthday serenade for her.
He also took Miss Willie on a canoe trip and took her to the dog spa where she was pampered with a massage.
But perhaps the most wonderful gift for Miss Willie was that she was able to spend her last nights in an extra warm and cosy dog bed.
Miss Willie never woke up one morning. Thanks to the tireless efforts of PETA and especially her friend Jes, she was able to spend her last days in dignity and love.
Hopefully, Miss Willie’s story will help to show people that chained dogs deserve a more dignified life and must be untied immediately!
