The story of Higgins, an adorable German Shepherd, is characterized by heartbreaking rejection.
He arrives at the shelter as a young puppy and is immediately adopted.
However, life in his first home is far from ideal and he ends up back at the Humane Society of Preble County in Ohio shortly afterwards and has been a long-term resident ever since.
He has spent almost his entire life behind bars here – but the volunteers are not prepared to give up the German shepherd.
A lonely life in a dark corner

Higgins‘ once playful disposition has turned to sadness. Day after day, he huddles in a lonely corner, his hope fading with each passing moment.
As he gets older, his chances of ever finding a loving home dwindle too.

After so long in the shelter, potential adopters assume that something is wrong with Higgins. Why else would he still be here year after year?
The desperate staff at the shelter are appealing to the people out there:
Give this sweet and charming boy a fair chance! Don’t let him sink into the loneliness of an unfulfilled life.
A heavenly couple find each other

And then the miracle happens: Brendon Reed, a man with a big heart, adopts Higgins!
Right from the start, the two get on as if they had always been together.
Everyone involved is overwhelmed with joy. At last Higgins has been given the second chance he so richly deserves.
After 2381 days at the shelter, Higgins can finally enjoy sleeping on the couch, cuddling with his human, running around in his own garden and rolling in the grass.
Away from the stressors of shelter life, Higgins learns what it means to have a father who loves him and makes him feel safe and secure every day.
It’s a happy ending that touches everyone
The years of rejection are over and a new chapter full of happiness and affection begins for this brave dog.
It shows us how important it is to give animals in shelters a voice and a loving home.
