This case from Spain is a sad example of foresight and love.
The Xollin animal shelter in Spain has come forward with a tragic case.
Normally, the shelter takes care of abandoned animals when the owners themselves are in need of care or have died, and they rescue the animals from the hands of ruthless people.
But this case is unique, and that’s what makes it so special and so sad.
Love also means letting go
It is said that you have to be able to let go of someone you love. This is certainly true if it is better for the person you love.
Twelve-year-old Andres made precisely this decision out of love for his beloved puppy.
When the staff at the animal shelter opened the box in the morning, they found a small, frightened puppy sitting in it, looking at them with wide eyes.
They found a letter and a soft toy next to the puppy. In the letter, Andres says that his father constantly hits and kicks the puppy.
Now the father has crushed the puppy’s tail. As a result, he and his mum decided to take the dog to the animal shelter. He asks if the shelter can help his beloved pup.
Andres‘ words are full of love. He has added the soft toy so that his puppy will always remember him, never forget him and know that he was loved by him.
He also writes that his father knows nothing about the fact that he took the dog away, and he swears that he will never tell his father. This is the only way he can protect his puppy.
Help when it is needed
All the shelter staff were very touched and, as the little puppy’s tail was no longer in a normal shape, they immediately took him to a vet.
The vet realised that the tail was indeed broken. He treated the fracture and the shelter staff took the little puppy, whom they named Rene, back to the shelter.
Rene is lovingly cared for there and his broken tail can heal in peace. He will be forever grateful to his twelve-year-old rescuer Andres.
A new home
After the animal shelter contacted the public, they received hundreds of enquiries within a short space of time. Everyone wants to offer little Rene a place in their family.
The response has been tremendous and the shelter is confident that they will find the right family for the puppy once he is fully recovered. Fortunately, there is no fear of any consequential damage.
And despite the terrible things Rene has experienced, he has not only been saved by Andres‘ love, but has developed into a really great dog.
