As a school bus driver in St. Louis, Missouri, waited for her shift to begin, she suddenly spotted a fluffy black pile in front of her.
At first she thought it was some inanimate object.
But suddenly she noticed a very tentative movement in the middle of the fluff ball.
She was shocked.
Was this supposed to be an animal?
A whimper sounded from the pile
Of course, the curious bus driver had to check it out.
As she approached the pile, she suddenly heard a soft whimper.
She then called Stray Rescue of St. Louis (SRSL) for help.
Six puppies were in a field
„The caller said there were six puppies in a field, four of which were dangerously close to the road,“
donna Lochmann, head lifesaver at SRSL, told The Dodo.
They set off immediately, but finding the puppies was not so easy.
„First we discovered the four runaways by the road, they were completely soaked from the rain, freezing and shivering,“
lochmann told The Dodo.
As soon as the first four were safe, they found the other two among the undergrowth and weeds.
Five of the puppies were black and white, only the sixth was solid black. All six were incredibly cute.
When Lochmann found the sixth puppy, it lifted its tiny head up and looked at the animal rescuer for help.
With the family of dogs in the back seat, it was off to the shelter
Once at the shelter, she gave the puppies a much-needed warm bath.
„Then they got a good portion of wet food, they were so hungry,“
lochmann told The Dodo.
After the bath and the delicious meal, the little fur noses curled up for a nap. They had really earned it now.
Now they had to find a loving foster family
As the puppies were still so small, they could only be given away in groups of two.
Fortunately, all the puppies found foster homes straight away and one pair of siblings was able to leave the shelter.
Today, all six puppies are thriving in their foster homes. They will soon be available for adoption.
„We are infinitely grateful that the bus driver was so thoughtful and called us immediately, they probably wouldn’t have survived the rest of the day out there,“
lochmann told The Dodo.
Today the dogs are alive and well, which makes everyone very happy.
