Circus lions rescued from captivity: the moment they feel grass for the first time touches everyone

Zirkuslöwen aus Gefangenschaft gerettet- der Moment, als sie das erste Mal Gras spüren, berührt alle

When you think of the circus, it’s not just clowns and acrobats that spring to mind, but often also elephants or circus lions.

Fortunately, there are more and more rules that prohibit the use of animals in circuses. One circus in Peru, however, did not abide by the rules for a long time.

An adventurous rescue mission

There is a circus in the Peruvian Andes that flouts all laws and continues to keep the lions Simba and Rey as show animals.

The two big cats live crammed into cages and have never seen or felt real grass in their lives.

Fortunately, an animal welfare organisation is working to free the animals from the circus. An adventurous action, because the authorities and owners do not play along.

However, with a great deal of effort and labour, the two lions are freed from their enclosures and embark on a year-long journey to freedom.

A long journey to Africa

The goal is for Rey and Simba to be able to live in the savannah of South Africa again. To achieve this, however, the animals have to undergo vaccinations and examinations.

The visits to the authorities are not easy either, which means it takes several years before the journey to Africa can begin.

Finally, however, the time has come and Simba and Rey are allowed to fly to southern Africa on an aeroplane together with 31 other members of their species.

Once they arrive in South Africa, the two lions are allowed to put their paws on real savannah grass for the first time in their lives.

The two big cats look like they feel at home straight away. They really deserve their journey to freedom!

Hard work for great miracles

Miracles don’t happen by themselves, but with hard work any miracle can come true. The viewers on YouTube certainly think so!

For example, user therealgsmith comments:

„It wasn’t a miracle that you guys brought the lions home. It was your hard work and determination.“

Mimzyc9949 is also enthusiastic about this action and writes:

„Simply unique how these guys made it back to Africa.“
