Valley Center is a small, rural village in the San Diego, California area. The village is located in a rocky valley, so construction workers here often encounter rough terrain.
That’s not unusual, but the discovery a team of construction workers makes that morning is anything but ordinary.
Who’s looking out there?
Suddenly, the workers hear a pitiful crying, but can’t see anything at first.
They follow the whimpering voice and reach two large rocks with a narrow gap in the middle.
The cries for help seem to be coming directly from this gap, so the men go closer and look inside.
What they see there tears their hearts apart: there is a cute little furry face looking at them with desperate eyes.
It’s actually a little puppy sitting there among the stones! And it’s definitely not in the crevice by choice.
It must have slipped in somehow and now it can’t get out again. Luring it in is useless, and the workers can’t simply grab the puppy either.
Professional help is needed
When the construction workers realize the hopeless situation of the little dog, they immediately call for help.
Soon a whole rescue team arrived. Employees from San Diego County Animal Services and firefighters arrive to rescue the puppy from his plight.
However, the question arises as to how they are to do this, as the crevice is and remains too narrow to climb in or lift the dog out with their hands.
The rescuers‘ first idea fails. They try to put a rope around the puppy, but are unable to reach him from outside.
But the rescuers have another brilliant idea. They pour soapy water over the entrance to the crevice so that the stones become slippery.
In this way, they hope that the puppy will be able to slip out on its own. The plan works – an hour after the rescuers arrive, the little dog is finally out of the crevice.
A new life begins
The puppy is happy to be free and safe. On the way to the shelter, he even cuddles with one of his rescuers.
Upon examination, it turns out that the puppy is healthy but weak.
The little one, who is given the name Snack, has to be nursed back to health before he can be adopted.
Thanks to good care, he recovers quickly and his big dream comes true almost as quickly: a loving family falls in love with him and gives him a forever home.
So this scary story has a wonderful ending for the little dog.
Instead of starving and dying of thirst in a crevice, he leads a happy, safe life – thanks to the men who discovered him and the helpers who never gave up on him.
