Two married couples from Texas are sitting on their porch and have no idea that they are about to witness an unusual rescue operation.
They notice an animal hiding on their porch, but can’t yet tell exactly what kind of creature it is.
When they finally realize what kind of animal is seeking refuge with them, they act immediately to save the little creature.
Not a good place for a helpless animal
@centraltexasratrescue A very kind couple reached out to us about a loose domestic rat on their patio they’d seen off and on for a couple weeks. They suspected he was a domestic rat, and feared for his safety, knowing he couldn’t survive out there long with the heat and feral cats and coyotes. They were giving him food and water and even planned to try and live trap him for us (why can’t all people be so awesome?) Fortunately, we drove out this morning and I was able to grab him! Poor guy is thin and has some wounds, but seems a very sweet boy. He will receive medical treatment and be in quarantine until he is healthy enough for neutering and adoption. Jean-Luc is incredibly lucky. Unfortunately it is pretty common for people to dump small animals like rats, mice, rabbits, and guinea pigs outside when they don’t want them, despite the fact they are not equipped to survive, and most die horrible deaths. Loose rats especially are not often lucky enough to be found by kind people who both know they need help and care enough to help them. We are so glad Jean-Luc is safe! #rescueratsoftiktok #rescuerats #ratrescue #ratsoftiktok #rattok #petrats #ctrr #centraltexasratrescue #rescuelife #animalabandonment #stopdumpinganimals #rescued #safenow

The couple take a closer look at the animal and notice that it is a colored rat, these are normally kept as pets.
It has a special coloring, different facial features than wild rats and its behavior also speaks more for a pet.
They observe the animal for a while and it is obvious that the little creature should not be out alone.
They quickly realize that with the heat, cats and coyotes in the area, the rat doesn’t have much chance of survival.
They call in Central Texas Rat Rescue.
An extraordinary rescue operation
The rescuers arrive and try to lure the rat, who is later named Jean-Luc, out of his hiding place.
As Jean-Luc has already made himself somewhat comfortable and does not want to leave his little lair, it is initially difficult to lure him out.
The rescuers approach carefully, let Jean-Luc sniff their hands and talk to him gently. In this way, he slowly gets used to the new people.
Eventually, they manage to lure Jean-Luc out of his hiding place with some peanut butter.
@centraltexasratrescue Update on Jean-Luc, the stray (presumed dumped) domestic rattie we rescued recently, answers to commonly asked questions on his viral (for us, anyway) rescue video, and talk about peanut butter! While this isn’t normally food for rats, it’s a good way to get the small animal to safety as part of the rescue operation.
„The poor guy is skinny and has a few wounds, but he seems to be a very sweet boy,“
reports the rescue organization. She goes on to explain:
„He is receiving medical care and will remain in quarantine until he is healthy enough to be neutered and adopted.“
So Jean-Luc has been given a second chance and is now living in a loving and safe home.
@centraltexasratrescue Update on Jean-Luc! He’s out of quarantine, been neutered, and being adopted. Hooray! #rattok #ratsoftiktok #petrats #ratsarepetstoo #rescuerats #ratrescue #rescueratsoftiktok #rescued #rescuelife #centraltexasratrescue #ctrr #spayandneuter #adopt #rescueanimals #rescueupdate
