A couple from near East Kootenay in British Columbia were collecting firewood for their stove.
But suddenly they noticed something strange lying in the snow – it was a dark figure that looked like an animal but wasn’t moving.
She slowly approached the strange figure
The woman approached the creature to find out what it was.
As she approached, she was astonished to see a brown and white cat almost completely frozen in the snow!
The couple was shocked, so they immediately bagged the cat and brought it to the East Kootenay BC SPCA Animal Rescue.
The shelter staff were stunned at how a human could do such a thing to this cat.
The cat was in desperate need of help
The poor street animal, who was later christened Wilson, was already about 12 years old.
„There were only trees and snow in the area, so the dark figure stood out in the snow,“
tia Yakimovitch, a keeper at the East Kootenay BC SPCA, told The Dodo.
„Who knows how long he was out there or what he was going through.“
An affectionate cat
Shelter staff immediately took poor Wilson to a veterinarian, who performed emergency surgery on him as he had a severe wound on his abdomen that needed attention.
Wilson was then monitored further, as he had suffered severe skin injuries in all the time he had been living alone on the street.
But despite his misfortune, Wilson was an incredibly affectionate cat. And he was so grateful for his rescue!
„Wilson is such a sweet guy. He’s a gentle soul who loves to give hugs and chat with his humans. He is calm and relaxed.“

Ready for a new home
It wasn’t long before Wilson had plenty of people interested in adopting him.
Tia is sure that the cat will soon be able to move into a loving forever home.
„He really doesn’t seem to hold any grudges about what he’s been through and is just happy to have a warm place and a cozy bed,“
tia tells us.
„He’s ready for life in retirement. Sunbathing by the window, bird watching from a cat perch, napping on his human’s lap and lots of treats!“
We hope that Wilson will soon be able to move into a great family where he will experience the unconditional love he deserves!
