In many countries, dogs that live in shelters and are deemed unadoptable are unfortunately still euthanized.
This is also the case in the USA, where the pit bull dog Kaya was found.
However, Kaya is lucky – she is adopted shortly before she is about to be put to sleep.
But the adoptive parents have no idea that they are saving not just one life, but many.
The dog that nobody wants

Kaya is found alone on an abandoned property. She doesn’t belong to anyone and nobody cares about her.
The dog, who is in an emaciated and neglected state, is therefore brought to the animal shelter.
But her fate continues there – no one wants her. The people looking for adoptable dogs simply look past her.
Her condition is still pitiful. After just a short time, the dog that nobody wants is euthanized.
But then the tide turns – a loving couple called Jesse and Tara take her in.
The big surprise

Jesse and Tara see the love and courage to face life in the dog who has been shaken by fate.
They do everything they can to make Kaya feel better. In particular, they make sure that the emaciated dog eats properly and puts on weight.
But soon it seems that they have fed Kaya too well. Her belly gets fatter and fatter.
Worried that Kaya might be ill, they take her to the vet.
There they are not only given the all-clear, but a wonderful surprise: Kaya is pregnant!
But the joy is mixed with bewilderment. If Kaya had been euthanized, the unborn life in her belly would have been killed too.
Kaya has an even bigger surprise

Jesse and Tara now take even more care of the expectant mother.
And then the time has come: labor begins and the first little puppy comes out!

The excitement and joy is huge. Kaya does her best and soon the first puppy has a sibling.
Puppy number three, four, five and six follow. But it goes on.

Jesse and Tara are expecting eight puppies because Kaya’s belly has become very fat. They think they’ll all be there by dinner time.
But far from it – Kaya gives birth to puppies late into the night and the next day it continues. And the day after that.

The first puppies are already climbing around on Kaya and drinking milk, while the exhausted mother continues to struggle.
In the end, there are no fewer than 16 puppies!

Unfortunately, two puppies were born dead, but 14 are in perfect health.
So by saving just one dog, Jesse and Tara have saved 15 dogs‘ lives!
