Jack Anderson and his wife are hungry and go into a snack bar.
They discover a black dog under the counter that keeps staring at them. However, she makes no move to come to them.
As they watch the dog being chased away by the snack bar owner, they feel sorry for her. They have no idea how this encounter will change their lives.
A shocking discovery
The two leave the snack bar and make their way home. There they discover the dog again.
Now that they see her up close, they realize something shocking: the dog is pregnant. She urgently needs help.
„My wife took the leftovers and I went over to give them to her.
The dog was very nervous and we could see some scars on her skin, which told us that she didn’t find it easy to trust people.“
recalls Jack.
With a lot of calm and patience, they got the dog to accept the food.
Security and calm for the dog
Once she has gained some confidence, they carefully take the dog in their arms and put her in the car. For the first time, she feels love and security.
Jack’s wife comforts the sad dog and then something happens that the two of them have never experienced before – Poppy, as they have named the dog, cries.
She has tears in her eyes, something they have never seen in an animal before. She also becomes noticeably calmer, she senses that the humans mean well by her.
Poppy is integrating well into Jack’s little family and is able to give birth to her puppies in a calm and safe environment.
Jack and his wife take it in turns to look after her so that she is always well looked after.
Until the puppies are big enough, they stay with them, then they go to their own loving families and are adopted.
For Poppy, the happy ending is perfect:
„Poppy will stay with us. We are getting to know her better and better and building up trust in her“,
says Jack.
