It is always a sad moment when a new animal turns up on the doorstep of an animal shelter.
It is particularly depressing when the animal is already of senior age and can look back on a life within its family.
Unfortunately, golden retriever Sophia is one such case. Fortunately, the pretty dog gets a second chance in the end.
Like a disused piece of furniture
Sophia is dropped off at the gates of the Friends Forever Animal Rescue shelter like a worn-out piece of furniture.
The reason for leaving the dog behind is that the family has moved house and can no longer look after Sophia.
„The owner told us that she had already travelled to other shelters to find a home for the dog and that we were her last stop,“
reports Casey Newton, the founder of the rescue centre.
The woman was quite „emotionless“:
„It seemed like the dog was a couch that no longer fit in the living room, or an item of clothing that had become too small or large.“
The most beautiful declaration of love in the world
The 14-year-old dog doesn’t know what hit her.
„Watching Sophia’s reaction as the car pulled away – she wondered ‚Where are you going?‘ – I think that’s the worst part because we see it so often. It’s just sad.“

Suddenly Sophia is without her familiar home and without the people who have been with her all her life.
„How do I tell her that she’s safe here? How do I explain to her that she hasn’t done anything wrong?“
reads a Facebook post from the animal shelter.
The situation is heartbreaking. But then there is a ray of hope for the cute dog. A doctor at the animal shelter cannot resist Sophia’s magic and takes her in.
This is perhaps the most beautiful declaration of love a dog has ever received:
„She may not understand it now, but in the end all that matters is that she feels the love, like I hold her paw and kiss her head and tell her she’s a good girl and I love her and she’s missed because I haven’t given up on her.“
