Countless dogs are waiting in animal shelters to be adopted by loving families and find a forever home.
For many, this big dream does not materialise or it takes a very long time.
After a long wait, Drogo, a pit bull in need of a cuddle, seems to be one of the lucky ones for whom everything turns out well.
But then everything turns out differently.
500 long days
Drogo arrives at the animal shelter because his owner is being deported.
He doesn’t really understand it all and feels uncomfortable in this unpleasant environment.
Other dogs are adopted, but Drogo waits and waits.
Nobody wants to take him home, nobody falls in love with him, even though he has such a good heart.
But Drogo never gives up hope. Surely the people who are meant for him will come along one day and everything will turn out all right.
A year passes, and then almost half a year. Poor Drogo has now been at the animal shelter for 500 days.
But suddenly everything changes – his big dream comes true, someone warms their heart to him and takes him home.
One week – no more

Drogo goes home with his new owners and thinks he’s in luck.
Like any shelter dog, he naturally needs time to get used to his new surroundings.
However, his owners think he has to settle in overnight. They have no patience with him, nor do they make any effort to help him settle in.
After a week, they take Drogo to the animal shelter. They want him back, they don’t want him any more.
The shelter has no choice but to take the long-term guest back.
Everyone was so happy that Drogo had finally found a home after such a long time, and now he is being sent away again after such a short time.
Once again he is stuck in a cramped kennel and is devastated.
Waiting and hoping
The shelter is hoping that somewhere out there is someone who will open their heart to poor Drogo and give him a real chance.
They post a video of Drogo on TikTok after his return. Above his sweet face behind the kennel bars it reads:
„When you wait 500 days for a home and then get returned after a week.“
Another video can be seen on Instagram. It reads:
„I don’t know why I’ve been here so long.“
Unfortunately, there is a sad answer to that. As the animal shelter explains, people are too prejudiced against pit bulls. Added to this is his colouring – predominantly black dogs are not popular.
We can only hope that Drogo will come to the attention of people who think outside the box and have a heart for someone who is not liked by anyone.
