Every dog that has to live in a shelter has a longing for a comfortable home, a loving family, something to do and exercise.
For some dogs this wish is fulfilled quickly, others have to wait a very long time and become sadder with every day of waiting.
The dog in this story hopes in vain for a home for nine months, but suddenly his dream comes true. The way he reacts is indescribable.
Unwanted because of prejudice
for 270 days, not even a visitor to the shelter takes notice of the dog called Paco. It is simply out of the question for people to adopt such a dog.
There are two incomprehensible reasons for this: Firstly, he is no longer a puppy and most people don’t want an adult dog.
Secondly, he is an American Staffordshire Terrier. Like all so-called fighting dogs, this breed is burdened with serious prejudices.
These dogs are said to be aggressive and dangerous by nature – but people forget that the behavior of each dog depends on the upbringing and behavior of the owner.
Paco doesn’t want to bite, he wants to find a home and be loved. But the people who visit the shelter during the 270 days don’t see that.
Unbridled joy
Then, all of a sudden, Paco can’t believe his eyes. There is suddenly a couple standing outside his gate, behaving very differently to all the people who have passed by before.
They don’t just keep walking, they look at him. And in a friendly way, too. More than that, there is something in their gaze that Paco has never seen before – love.
Then the man sticks his hand through the bars. At last Paco understands what’s going on.
As soon as the penny drops, Paco starts jumping up and down like a bouncy ball. The shelter worker tells him to stay calm for a moment until the door is opened.
But Paco doesn’t hear this at all. He only sees these people with their loving eyes that say:
„Yes, Paco, we’ll get you out of here. We’ll take you in and give you the beautiful life you’ve always dreamed of. We know you’re a great dog and we don’t give a damn about prejudice.“
Paco continues to hop and when the door finally opens, he hops outside – straight into the arms of his new master.
He can hardly believe his luck. These lovely people are really taking him home with them and won’t give him back.
Paco’s big dream has come true – because there are people who think outside the box and open their hearts to those who are disregarded by others.
