When a foal, just 9 days old, tragically lost its mother, the Australian Cattle Dog male Zip took care of it.
Perhaps you’ve heard a story or two about unequal animal friendships and wondered whether this can really be true?
Oh yes – we can confirm that! Many dogs commit legendary heroic deeds.
Dogs are incredibly lovable, sensitive, sociable and very social creatures.
Just like Zip, a whole series of canine heroes have already given orphaned foals, calves, piglets, kittens or ducks their love and thus new hope for a good life.
So how did Zip’s heroic deed come about?
Australian Cattle Dog adopts 9-day-old orphaned foal
The story took place in Fayette (Alabama, USA) when Karla Swindle had to put down her 22-year-old mare Sandy with a heavy heart shortly after the birth of a foal.
She left behind a foal named Tye, who was just 9 days old.
The night Sandy went, something very unusual happened:
Zip, the sensitive four-legged friend who witnesses the annual rearing of many foals on the farm, was somehow behaving differently than usual.
What was going on with Zip?
What happened that night is almost unbelievable!
The colourful dog lay down very close to Tye in the barn and never left his side.
Karla reported heart-rending whimpering, as if Zip was crying for Tye’s loss.
He sensed that the little foal was now all alone and gave him his heart, his closeness, love, care and friendship.
Many nights and days passed with Zip always by Tye’s side.
The lovable rescue dog took in the orphaned foal and gave him new courage to develop into a magnificent young horse – and with Zip by his side, Tye managed to overcome his loss!
Dogs are heroes on four paws
Zip and Tye’s story makes it clear that love knows no boundaries.
We humans can take a leaf out of their book and learn from our animals!
Tye is now fully grown and spends time with his mates.
In fact, this was not so easy for the orphaned foal at first. After the death of his mum, Tye was still so small and insecure that he initially only orientated himself towards his dog dad.
Zip seems to have sensed that the little foal needed a real friend and when Tye had developed into a real beauty, his dog friend slowly withdrew from his role as surrogate dad.
The love and friendship with his canine pal Zip still binds the two of them today (and probably for all eternity)!
