Somewhere in the parking lot of a school in southern California sits a dog.
She has settled down on a small patch of grass next to a tree and simply doesn’t want to leave this place. What drives her to this behavior?
At the place of farewell?
It doesn’t take long for people in the area to notice the dog.
They believe that Scarlet, as she will soon be called, last saw her family in this very spot.
This would mean that she was abandoned there or simply forgotten, both of which are equally sad.
Scarlet does not want to face this bitter reality. She stays and hopes as the days come and go.
Unsuccessful rescue attempts
The people in the neighborhood soon start giving Scarlet food. They also try to get the little dog away from her tree.
But Scarlet always reacts in the same way. She runs a few steps away. When the space under her tree is free again, she returns there to continue her lonely vigil.
Of course, no one would even dream of simply chasing Scarlet away. After all, the humans want to help her and not expose her to additional stress.
Successful rescue
Staff at the school and people from the surrounding area start sharing pictures of Scarlet on social media.
Maybe the little dog wasn’t abandoned on purpose and her family is still looking for her.
This hope is not fulfilled, but another person hears about Scarlet: Suzette Hall from Logan’s Legacy.
This organization is dedicated to rescuing strays and street dogs.
Waiting for a forever home
„She was so sweet. When I drove up, I looked for the tree, and sure enough, there she was.“
hall describes her arrival in the parking lot opposite the dodo. She manages to lure Scarlet into a cage with a hot dog.
„She was terrified at first, but calmed down completely when she realized she was safe,“
says Hall. A foster family with great dog siblings was quickly found and Scarlet is doing well again today.
But it is only a temporary home. Scarlet is now waiting for a nice family who can offer her a wonderful new home for life.
