Dogs have three million olfactory cells and ten times more mucous membrane surface area than humans. They can also smell odors up to eight meters underground.

No wonder they are able to achieve top performances with their super olfactory bulbs. Sometimes humans benefit from this.

Do good and nothing bad will happen to you

You could describe the interaction between Lauren Gauthier and coonhound Victoria somethinglike this.

The two met in animal welfare. Back then, Lauren was already committed to rescuing abused and neglected dogs.

She had always seen it as a wonderful task to stand up for those who have no voice of their own.

With the organization „Mission Beagle and Hound Rescue„, she was entrusted with visiting various animal shelters in the US state of South Carolina.

Love at first sight

At one of the shelters, she met a one-eyed coonhound named Victoria. The dog was scared and didn’t like being alone.

Lauren was immediately hooked. But Victoria was also immediately crazy about Lauren. There was a deep bond between them straight away.

It quickly became clear that the two belonged together. Lauren took Victoria home with her, where she has lived happily ever since.

The two make a great team and spend as much time together as possible. However, Victoria’s behavior towards Lauren had changed a lot recently.

A strange red stain

Lauren had a small red spot on her nose, but it didn’t bother or worry her too much.

But for Victoria, this little red spot was a magical attraction. The dog sniffed at the thing incessantly.

At first, Lauren ignored this behavior. However, Victoria’s mania could not be stopped, although Lauren tried a lot to stop her dog.

As Victoria just wouldn’t let up, Lauren began to feel uneasy and made an appointment with the doctor.

That was her luck! The doctor explained to her that she had basal cell carcinoma. This is a type of skin cancer. Hers was still in the early stages and could easily be operated on.

She was immediately given an appointment to have this basal cell carcinoma removed and apart from a scar on her nose, she will not be left with any damage – thanks to Victoria!

Dog’s nose as a stroke of luck

Lauren would never have thought that Victoria was such a stroke of luck for her. This story has only made their intimate bond even stronger.

Lauren has a very charming explanation as to why Victoria brought the health issue to her attention in this way:

Perhaps it was Victoria’s way of thanking Lauren for taking the dog from the shelter at the time.

But this type of cancer gave Lauren a lot to think about. After all, she had been an avid tanning bed user for years.

It took a while, but she now believes that she got it from her sunbed use .

If she hadn’t succumbed to the quick and easy tan at a young age, she might never have gotten cancer.

But as a tan is synonymous with beauty, she put all risk awareness to one side at the time and didn’t think about the consequences.

She urgently warns all sunbed users not to use the artificial sun. At some point you have to pay the price for a tan!
