It was a cold afternoon when a passer-by was walking through the streets of Albany in New York – at that moment he had no idea what was about to happen.
Suddenly, the passer-by spotted a travel bag lying next to a garbage can.
At first he thought nothing of it – until suddenly two eyes were staring at him!
He finally took a closer look..
The passer-by looked down at the bag to take a closer look.
And now saw a small, brown and black tabby cat, terrified and stuck in the duffel bag.
Some heartless person had simply dumped it there next to the garbage can!
The passer-by immediately called the nearby animal welfare authority so that the poor kitty could soon be brought to safety.
She was initially taken into the care of the animal welfare organization Mohawk Hudson Humane Society.
„How can you be thrown in the trash?“
Kara Murry, the shelter’s intake coordinator, was the first to see the kitten – and was shocked at its story!
She couldn’t believe that there were people who would just dump a cat in the trash like that.
Despite her sad story, the cat, who was christened Newt, was surprisingly trusting.
„She purred and rubbed up against us to pet us as if to say, ‚Thank you for rescuing me,'“
kara told The Dodo.
She was finally taken care of
Now, Newt was safe and received a vet checkup, where thankfully everything was fine.
The shelter staff gave the cat plenty of food and water, which she had apparently been sorely missing for days.
Newt was an incredibly sweet cat and delighted the whole team.
„When I first met her, two days after she arrived, she immediately came to me to be stroked and loved. She was very sweet, wanted to be stroked and loved playing with pipe cleaners.“

A new home
Just a week after the kitty arrived at the shelter, she found her new family to live with.
A man was looking for a cat and immediately fell in love with Newt when he saw her at the shelter.
Now Newt lives happily ever after with her dad and gets all the love she has been longing for.
What a happy ending for this kitty who narrowly escaped being thrown away!
