Adri and her companion were travelling to their home in Georgia on a remote road when they encountered a Beagle meandering across the lane. Concerned about her wellbeing, they promptly halted their vehicle and hurried to assist the canine.
As they held her close, it was heartbreaking to see the charming pooch appearing terrified and hopelessly sorrowful.
Adri gentled the petite dog, promising that her circumstances would soon improve. The twosome decided to bring her to their house.
Attempting To Gain Mocha’s Trust
The duo kept their fingers crossed that someone would identify the charming pup, despite her lack of a collar or a microchip. They reached out to shelters and shared images of the canine on the internet, but no one claimed her.
The pup was extremely frightened and wasn’t able to make eye contact with her saviors. Her tail was always hidden between her legs. The sight of Mocha crouching under the compact cabinets in their domicile deeply saddened Adri.
„From the get-go, it was evident to us that she hadn’t been accustomed to staying indoors. She also didn’t have much experience with people,“ Adri shared with The Dodo.
Her rescuers chose the name Mocha for her and gradually started to work with her. They fed her from their hands in an attempt to earn her trust.
Anxious that the dog might have separated from her puppies, they returned her to the location where she was found. They scoured the surroundings but there were no puppies.
It was a heart-wrenching moment for Adri and her partner when they realized that Mocha’s caretakers probably deserted her post-pregnancy.
Presenting Mocha to the Other Adopted Dogs
Mocha was then introduced to the other dogs, who were also rescued by the couple. That was the turning point where things started improving. The rescue dogs taught Mocha what it’s like to be a canine. They accepted her and played with her in the yard.
As Mocha wouldn’t allow Adri to approach her, Adri attempted to mingle with the dog via the glass patio door.
Initially, Adri would place her hand on the glass door, beckoning Mocha to come over. Whenever the other adopted dogs rushed towards the glass door upon noticing their mom, Mocha began to follow.
Mocha felt more secure to engage with Adri in this manner. Nonetheless, she was still scared. Mocha would run away every time Adri opened the door.
Over time, Adri started extending her hand out of the door, and Mocha would respond by showering her hand with affectionate licks.
Mocha At Last Finds Comfort
Four weeks later, a remarkable event occurred. Mocha approached Adri and stayed beside her. Adri was deeply pleased, as it was the first time Mocha initiated contact.
“It was the first instance where she sat down next to me without a need to dart. There weren’t any treats for her this time. I could see in her eyes that she was cautious, but she still chose to sit with me,” Adri explained.
The couple kept giving Mocha abundant affection, and she reciprocated their trust completely. Due to their persistent care and patience, her fears-with time- evaporated.
“Ever since then, we’ve seen significant development. She climbs on my lap and allows me to pet her. Observing this transformation justifies all the effort,” Adri articulated.
Initially, Adri and her companion intended to secure a caring home for Mocha, but gradually they realised she had already found her home. Their residence in Georgia was where she naturally fitted.
We are delighted that Mocha has discovered a loving family that showers her with the affection she warrants. This pup has ultimately found the cheerful home she always longed for.
