Elephants are not only imposing and beautiful animals, they also have a remarkable intelligence and a sophisticated social dynamic.
If a member of their herd is in danger, they show deep concern, especially if it is a young one.
This exact scenario happened one day in India.
A baby elephant in danger

The baby elephant has fallen into a ditch and the herd is beside themselves with worry. His herd watches helplessly from the other side of the river.
The locals and the animal welfare authorities react quickly and take action.
The helpers use an excavator to dig up the surrounding ground and create enough space for the young elephant to escape.

Naturally, the little elephant is terrified and doesn’t know what is happening to him. He waves his trunk around desperately.
The rescue operation is a complete success

They dig tirelessly until the hole is finally wide enough for the baby elephant to place its front feet on the surface and gain the necessary momentum to pull itself out.
Finally, the little elephant is free again and his herd immediately rushes to him.

They express their joy and relief with a joyful trumpet.
The sight of this heartfelt reunion melts even the coldest of hearts.
But the rejoicing is not limited to the herd

The helpers also shoot a collective cheer through the air.
The feeling of having saved the little elephant is simply indescribable.
They feel like they have made a really big difference, in the truest sense of the word.
But the really touching moment is yet to come

The elephant family is getting ready to leave when one of the older pachyderms stops and turns to the human species.
This is followed by a sweet sign of gratitude: the elephant greets the humans and waves its trunk! As if to say „thank you“: thank you for saving our little one.
This beautiful gesture underlines the worthiness of their efforts.
For the helpers, however, the mere fact that the little one is back with his family safe and sound is enough.
